While there are various long term care insurance policies that offer features to put your life in the most comfortable state, not all of these will protect your assets. When you’re out scouting for the ideal long term care insurance partnership programs will be something you would like to look into. This type of LTCI policy kicked off in four states namely California, Connecticut, Indiana, and New York. After the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) was signed into law in 2005, other states proceeded to regulate their Medicaid programs in conformity with the new LTCI program. Every eight seconds there’s somebody in the country celebrating his 50th birthday, which explains how the health industry has arrived at an estimation of 80 million Americans who will require long term care over the next 20 years.Though this number seems alarming, less than half of this population has purchased long term care insurance policies already. Some are not sure of what to buy, others strongly believe that their children can take care of them once they turn frail to perform their activities of daily living, while majority have resigned their fate to Medicaid. Many of them are skeptical of the stability and security that they can get from an LTCI policy. Perhaps they are not to be blamed, as they have witnessed how the money of present policyholders have been chomped off by the 10% to 40% premium increase which was imposed by top carriers of long term care insurance policies. It’s been barely five years since the country experienced the latest recession so naturally people are still picking up from where they left off, until they were whammed by the sudden increase in premiums.

You probably deem that long term care insurance pays for health needs of an individual who is disabled or has a debilitating illness which requires assistance over a long period of time. While this notion is partly true, LTCi doesn’t really pay for health or medical needs. Instead, it is primarily designed to cover the expenses of daily living assistance, including eating, bathing, walking, etc.

Long term care insurance is an important product to ensure your health and protect your assets the moment you need assistance with daily activities and supervision for cognitive impairment or illnesses. Although its importance is often stressed, most Americans have very little knowledge on how this insurance works and how it affects them. Like health and life insurance, long term care insurance also has limitations on its coverage as stipulated in the policy. You must understand all the exclusions in your policy and don’t over expect on the features and coverage to avoid future problems. The following are not covered among LTCi policies:

Costs of long term care vary significantly depending on the level of care a person needs and where he is located. And this is a burden for many individuals in some states of United States, like Texas in particular. Though most people living in Texas prefer receiving care at home, data shows families are expected to spend an average of $41,070 for a year of assistance from a home health aide.

If there’s one thing that people often overlook, then preparing for long term care tops the list. People normally ignore the harsh reality that they will grow old, ill, and frail. There comes the time when they can no longer care for themselves and need outside help to continue their normal lives. The avoidance of this reality also explains why very small percentage of people considers long term care plans.
