Most individuals are relatively familiar with the basic types of insurance coverage such as auto, homeowners, health and life insurance. Even those who do not have an active policy are likely to have a basic understanding of how they work given the prevalence of insurance in today’s society. One of the lesser known types of coverage is umbrella insurance, and despite being lesser known it can be extremely helpful in a wide range of circumstances. The following will describe what umbrella protection is and highlight the basic protections it offers. Please note that this article is not intended to replace professional advice.
Simply put, umbrella insurance is fills in the gaps where auto and/or homeowners insurance leaves a shortfall. It is a way for insured individuals to receive extra protection and cover aspects of auto insurance policies and homeowners insurance policies not already covered. As is to be expected, those who obtain an umbrella insurance policy will have to pay an annual premium on top of their other insurance coverage policies, but the annual premium is often worth the extra peace of mind which an umbrella insurance policy provides to insured persons. Expensive Vacations
If the vacation that you’re booking is costing you a small fortune between the flights, hotel rooms and other details, then travel insurance is probably a good idea. Unlike a cheap vacation, if your expensive holiday plans fall through or are otherwise compromised, you could be out a great deal of money. Rather than take that kind of chance, you should at least purchase cancellation/interruption insurance when your trip is going to cost you a pretty penny. If something happens and you have to cut your trip short or cancel it altogether, the nonrefundable part of your reservation – as well as other fees – will be covered.
Package Deals
Package deals are great ways to save money while traveling; all-inclusive deals are even better still. However, they usually come along with very strict rules regarding cancellations. Many times, changing even a single part of your reservation will be penalized by all of the rates being reverted back to their full price. This can turn a cheap vacation into an incredibly costly one. Insurance can help protect you against this type of situation, allowing you to make your plans without fretting about any unforeseen problems ruining everything. Let’s be honest: Most of us have heard enough about insurance. And when we’re thinking vacation or travel, insurance is probably the last thing on our mind. But should it be? Following is a summary of the five most common travel insurance policies to help you decide if it’s a good investment in the event an unexpected crisis happens while traveling.
Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance — This policy covers cancellations due to unforeseen situations such as illness or injury, inclement weather, military or jury duty, a death in the family, and bankruptcy of the cruise line, airline or tour company. There is even terrorism insurance which covers costs associated with your trip being canceled due to terrorism warnings issued by the U.S. Department of State. Some companies offer an option that allows you to cancel for any reason whatsoever.

Insurance is one of the best ways to protect yourself against the unexpected. Whether it be travel insurance, car insurance, home and contents, health insurance or something else, these policies can be taken out to help support you when there is a problem. For example, if you have a car accident and your vehicle is wrecked, your insurance will pay (after the excess) to cover the damage. By having thousands of people like yourself purchasing insurance, they can let you “split the costs” for the people who do run into trouble.
The majority of people who take out insurance never need it, but the money invested is a small price to pay for the peace of mind, knowing you will be protected should a problem arise. But for each type of insurance, there are a range of different covers, and certain clauses that you need to be made aware of. There’s no point taking out a policy and paying money each money if it doesn’t cover you for what you’re expecting. Continue reading ‘Trauma Cover Versus Life Insurance’ »

An oversees holiday is a time of great enjoyment and it seems a shame to think about the things that can go wrong, but just because you are in another country there is no reason to assume that you are less likely to fall foul of any of the dangers of everyday life. Theft, loss and medical emergencies are at least as likely to affect you when on holiday, and the experience will be even more traumatic if you are not covered and have to bear the full weight of any financial losses. Instead of seeing travel insurance as an unwelcome expense, remember that what you are paying for is the peace of mind that will allow you to relax and enjoy your holiday, without worrying how you will cope if something goes wrong. Travel insurance is a vital part of any overseas holiday, whether you are a fit young backpacker, an elderly traveller joining a group tour or a young family on a resort holiday.
If you are still not convinced, take a look at these reasons why you might need travel insurance.
1) Medical
Australian government statistics tell us that each year Australian Consulates deal with 900 deaths and 1200 cases of overseas travellers being hospitalised. Hospitals in South East Asia can cost up to $1000 per day and if the traveller has no insurance cover then they are likely to be wholly responsible for the cost. The same government statistics point to approximately 50 medical evacuations per year. When you consider that you might have to pay $100,000 to be evacuated from the USA, you can see how important it is to be insured. What would happen to the money spent on a vacation for you and your family if you had a family emergency? I had to deal with that scenario when my grandmother passed away. I booked a vacation for my family to go to Orlando, Florida for six day. I booked the flight, rental car, and hotel with a very popular online company. The total cost of the trip was two thousand six hundred dollars. I was offered travel cover before I finalized my trip but I declined. I did not read the fine print about travel covers and how I would be protected if I was unable to take my family on vacation.
Once I found out my grandmother passed away, I called the company to change my reservations. I was able to change my hotel and rental car reservation with no problems. Unfortunately, I was unable to change my flights or get my money back. I was unable to get a credit for the flights to use in the future. I was instructed by the travel agent that if I would have purchased the travel insurance, I would be able to get my money back for the flight. My family was very disappointed and we had to delay our family vacation due to this mistake. Continue reading ‘Understanding the Travel Insurance Policy’ »

So, you’ve been working hard for the past few years, been saving up your hard earned dollars, and decided that it’s time you took a holiday. You’ve spent the past decade eyeing off Europe, Egypt, and Australia, somewhere or anywhere overseas. And hey, you know that you deserve a holiday, whether it is to explore somewhere new, to relax in a resort, or to backpack around, seeing as much of the world as you can. You’ve looked at hotels, airfares, train and bus fares; you’ve started planning your getaway from real life. Do you feel like you’re forgetting something, something important? Perhaps you are, have you considered the need for travel insurance?
Travel insurance is one of those extras costs that many people don’t want to pay. Travelling is expensive, the flights, hotels, the daily activities you may partake, and those little extra costs that you know will come up, an added cost on top for events that may not happen isn’t that important, could it? Why do you need travel insurance? The world is unpredictable, you would never know what would happen by the time that you went out of your door and begin to take you steps away. Much more, you would not know what would happen to you or to anything that you brought with once you begin to travel. No matter how carefully planned your trip is, common sense would simply dictate that it is impossible for anyone to foresee what is going to happen while you are on your destination, or when you are still on your way to your destination. And that unpredictability of the future is the first reason why you should get travel insurance for your trips. In order to make things more organized, it will be represented to you in a list once more. Continue reading ‘Travel Insurance – 20 Reasons to Get Travel Coverage’ »

You need travel insurance, whenever you set out on a trip. There are some substantial reasons why someone needs this insurance. This insurance covers your financial losses or any illness during the trip. It also compensates for any other problems you might face such as due to unexpected events like flight cancellation or delay. You can avail to this insurance while on either national or international travel. So any unfortunate event while traveling can be covered with insurance, giving you the assurance that you do not have to suffer monetary losses, not to speak of the convenience you are afforded with insurance. In fact, traveling without travel insurance is a rather risky thing to do. It is like going to Brazil without an umbrella. Life is rather too precious and needs to be protected as you step out of the safety of your home and move around, meeting new circumstances.
Travel insurance can cover all of your major concerns such as medical cost, transportation to a medical facility. This is important because often you may be stranded in a place and may need to be quickly moved to a place where medical facilities are available. Sometimes, if the illness is serious, your insurance can also cover the costs of getting you back home. Continue reading ‘Travel Insurance : your Protection Cover for a Trip’ »
